About

St. Louis native R&B/Pop artist Mai Lee has been passionate about music from an early age. Her essential years at performing arts schools paved the foundation for her unique sound, a captivating mix of R&B, Hip-Hop, and pop. Her family supported her passion for music, as her parents were singers and her siblings introduced her to iconic early '90s artists like Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and Total, who heavily influenced her sound.

While Mai Lee's music carries familiar influences, her greatest inspiration comes from her parents' incredible journey. Fleeing from Vietnam in 1978 during the Vietnam War, Mai Lee’s parents migrated through multiple refugee camps over the years before calling St. Louis their home. They opened up the first Vietnamese and Chinese Restaurant, Mai Lee Restaurant, a local staple in the city. The restaurant was built from absolutely nothing and ended up becoming the blueprint. Watching them work hard towards their dreams gave her the hustle and grit to pursue her dreams.

Mai Lee’s journey in music began with recording over 15 years ago. Channeling her emotions into each track, she’s learned to embody her lyrics and express herself fully through every song. Her early mentors, including platinum-selling producer Bradd Young and talent manager Orlando "Pretty Boy" Watson played a significant role in her development. Working alongside other producers & co-writers, Vega Heartbreak and Grammy winning producer Courtney Orlando—talents she holds close from her hometown of St. Louis—shaped her sound and gave her the guidance she needed to thrive in the industry.

Mai Lee’s debut single “Low Key,” released in 2016, brought her national attention, airing on radio stations across 40 markets and reaching over 7.5 million listeners. Her debut album, FRIENDZ, released in September 2022, became a heartfelt tribute to the friends and family who shaped her life. The album offers a nostalgic 90s R&B vibe with a modern twist, celebrating the bonds that inspired each track. Mai Lee views the project as a way to connect with her listeners, inviting them into her world and honoring the friendships that have enriched her life.

Looking to the future, Mai Lee is excited to release the deluxe edition of FRIENDZ and take her music to fans worldwide on tour. She’s also working on a new merch line, giving her supporters another way to connect with her artistry. Inspired by the hard work of those around her, including the artists she’s shared the stage with, such as Megan Thee Stallion, 2 Chainz and Busta Rhymes, Mai Lee is ready for her next chapter—embracing the hustle, sharing her story and continuing to make music that brings people together.
